In the 1980s, the forestry department of Western Australia started cultivating Indian sandalwood on state-owned research plantations in the Kimberly region. Inspired by this project, Frank Wilson founded the company Tropical Forestry Services (Quintis) in 1997 and in 1999, Quintis planted its first own Indian sandalwood plantation.
